What is Death Stranding?

From legendary game designer Hideo Kojima comes an entirely new and unique open-world adventure on PlayStation 4 starring Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux and Lindsay Wagner.

In the near future, strange explosions have rocked the planet and triggered several supernatural events known as the Death Delinquency. With creatures from the underworld roaming the land and the imperative of mass extinction, Sam Porter Bridges must travel through the destroyed lands and save humanity from impending mortality.

2. Way of playing

The player controls Sam Bridges, a courier for a company known as Bridges. The player is tasked with delivering consignments of goods and goods to various isolated cities known as KNOTs, and also by connecting the cities with a communications system known as the Chiral Network. Shipments delivered by the company and recipients are evaluated based on the player’s performance (the player is given similar “likes” to social networks), including whether the shipment was delivered in good condition, and if it was damaged due to many factors. These features are used in turn to raise the level of player statistics (such as stability, durability and weight allowed to carry) and increase their position with individual sites and characters (which can improve rewards). How goods are packaged and distributed, and the total weight carried, can affect Sam's ability to move across environments.

The player's main enemies include strange creatures known as "isthmus creatures" (BTs), as well as MULE who are gangsters resembling bandits and affected by cargo mania, who try to steal goods so they can deliver them themselves. Surrounded by creatures isthmus rain known as "Timefall", which destroys the player's shield and payload by accelerating time. Usually creatures of isthmus are not visible, but a toxic suit equipped with a robotic sensor indicates the isthmus that is close to it, and the player can then scan the area to detect it.

Since Sam's mission is "resettlement", he is transferred to an underwater world known as "seam" if he is killed, where he can "swim" back to his body to revive himself. However, the killing by the isthmus also leads to a devastating explosion known as "emptiness", which always damages the death site with an irreplaceable pit.

As players expand the coverage of the chiral network, they can access area maps, and use charts to produce expendable elements and structures such as Portable Chiral Constructor (PCC) (including similar devices to the 3D printer), including ropes, bridges, and generators that are used to charge battery-powered equipment. The network is also used for online game functionality, where players can leave the supplies, structures, and messages that other players can view and use, although structures will eventually be destroyed by a "Timefall" rain after a while. The player can also recover the goods that other players have lost to complete the delivery. The player does not face other players directly in the world.
