Ichiban Kasuga, a low-ranking mobster in a low-ranking Japanese yakuza gang in Tokyo, faces 18 years in prison after taking responsibility for a crime he didn't commit. He never lost faith, but faithfully served his sentence and returned to society to discover that no one was waiting for him outside, and that the man he most respected had destroyed his clan.

Ichiban sets out to discover the truth behind his family's betrayal and reclaims his life, taking along a savage group of community outcasts: Adachi, a con man, Nanba, a homeless former nurse, and Saeko, a flight attendant on a mission. Together, they are embroiled in a struggle that is unfolding in the shadows of Yokohama and must rise to become the heroes they never expected to be.
